Quinton Jackson managed to “outdo” Keith “the Dean of Mean” Jardine to win via unanimous decision after 3 rounds of their non-titled light heavy weight fight at the UFC 96.
A big punch by Rampage to the jaw sent Jardine down to the floor in the last seconds of the fight gave Quinton his biggest points of the fight.
A spectacular trash talk ensued between Quinton Jackson and Rashad Evans, the current Light Heavyweight champion after the announcement of Rampage’s win.
With his win, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson gets a shot to take back the Light Heavyweight belt from Rashad Evans at UFC 98 on May 23, 2009 in MGM Grand, Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Shane Carwin finally set his credible entry into the UFC Heavyweight Division by knocking out heavily favored Gabriel Gonzaga.
Carwin’s strong short punch knocked out Gonzaga in just 1 minute and 9 seconds in the first round.
On the other hand, Filipinos have both victory and disappointments when Matt Hammil knocked out Mark Munoz with a lethal kick in the neck, making the “Filipino Wrecking Machine” Mark Munoz unconscious.
Brandon “the Truth” Vera redeemed himself by punishing Mike Patt with a barrage of kicks to the legs prompting the referee to stop the fight 1:27 in the second round.
Brandon Vera brandished a skillful muay thai and looked more fit and lethal at 205 lbs in the Light Heavyweight division.
