The 2008 UAAP Season 71 Championship Finals Game 1 between Ateneo Blue Eagles vs de La Salle Green Archers is set today, September 21, 2008 at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. Game 2 is set on Thursday, 25, 2008.

Ateneo Blue Eagles, recovered from a full-press defense by De La Salle Green Archers took the first game 69-61 of the 2008 UAAP Season 71 Game 1 Finals. For details, check the quarter-by-quarter accounts at the end of this post.

- First quarter ended with a 3-point Ateneo lead
- Quarter analysis: De La Salle’s full-press defense appears to threaten Ateneo
2nd Quarter: ADMU (36) – DLSU (29)
- Ateneo with 12 turnovers, with 6 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter
- 3-points by Jai Reyes of Blue Eagles but a quick 2 by Rico Maierhofer the Green Archers

- Ateneo continues 14-0 run at the opening of the 3rd quarter, but with 16 turnovers
- Archer’s Rico Mangahas with 4 fouls; Blue Eagles’ Jai Reyes and Salamat with both 3 personal fouls
- Biggest lead in the game, 42-32 in favor of Ateneo with 6:00 remaining and a timeout by De La Salle
- 3 personal fouls for Rico Maierhofer; 17 points for Raba Al-Hussaini despite cold start
- 3rd Raba AL-Hussaini shoot-miss-rebound-shoot of the game elated Ateneo crowds
- Ateneo lead cut down to 8 points 2:50 remaining in the 3rd quarter
- 3rd quarter ended with a 10-point lead by Ateneo, a hot Raba Al-Hussaini with 23 points, and a cold Chris Tiu sitting in the bench for most of the 3rd quarter.
4th Quarter: ADMU (69) – DLSU (61) Final Score
- With Ateneo able to break the fullpress defense of De La Salle, Coach Pumaren switched to 2-3 defense.
