According to PAGASA’s online weather update as of 2 a.m. today (October 2, 2009), Signal Number 2 is hoisted over Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Northern Quezon and Aurora, including Polillo Islands.
PAGASA Director Prisco Nilo announced Thursday public storm signal number 4 may be raised over Northern Luzon Friday night if Typhoon “Pepeng†will continue to strengthen.

The eye of Pepeng was spotted 270 kms East of Virac, Catanduanes as of 4 a.m. today. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near center and gustiness of up to 230 kph.
The last storm of such magnitude that hit the country was super typhoon “Remingâ€, with winds of 195 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 225 kilometers per hour, which placed Catanduanes under Signal Number 4 in 2006.
Nilo said Pepeng could reach the category of super typhoon with winds of 215 kilometers per hour or more by Friday noon or afternoon. “But this could change. It may still slow down, weaken or become stationary,†he added.
Weather Bureau Deputy Director Nathaniel Cruz, however, said there was no indication Pepeng would be changing its course.
