Former President Fidel V. Ramos called for the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on the advent of her decision to run as representative of the Second Congressional District of Pampanga. Citing the “inexcusably mysterious†intention of PGMA as to how she was able to come up with such decision, Ramos, who was on his way to attend conference in Australia, appealed for “equal protection of the law and equal opportunity; it also diminishes the stature of the presidency.â€
Ramos has maintained his stand that there can be an “undue advantage†over her contenders in the congressional seat citing Arroyo is “the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, chief executive with the power of appointment and removal; head of state, head of government, national budget controller, including the disbursement of pork barrel—will run against this little lady here who is an ordinary engineer from Porac or a little mayor… or this guy here,†Ramos said.
Another point at hand, according to Ramos is her inability to deliver as the President and a public servant that she may become preoccupied with her campaign once the campaign period begins. “As President, maybe you’re juggling at least 10 hot potatoes, which are national problems and even international developments, all at the same time like a juggler.â€
He reminded Arroyo that she is not being accountable only to her Pampanga District, instead, the whole world is looking out at her. She must straighten out her priorities especially now that she is being seen to have been spending more times in Pampanga when there are more other important concerns to take care of like the problems in Maguindanao.
