It is expected to be the biggest get together of assemblies and delegates of diplomats, ministers and even environmental activists from around the globe. Even the Vatican as Pope Benedict XVI has expressed support and called for “sober and responsible lifestyle”.
One of the expected highlights of this event is the “Earth Hour” which will take place on December 16 at 7PM when the lights of the city will be turned off which shall signify the need for a deeper commitment to a climate treaty. But what is most anticipated is the arrival of world leaders and their pledges to cut CO2 emissions and deforestation which are considered to be the major causes of global warming.
The urgency of the call for a new treaty stemmed from the impending expiration of in 2012 of the Kyoto Protocol.
