The Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO) is preparing for a transport strike on February 23, Tuesday in Metro Manila. In a press conference, Efren de Luna of ACTO informed the public that said strike is targeting to achieve a single ticketing system where only one government agency is mandated to apprehend erring drivers.
ACTO is looking at the Land Transportation Organization (LTO) as the rightful agency to monitor the public transport system since it is the agency where drivers get their licenses to drive.
De Luna stressed that drivers, especially those driving public transport have been subjected to corruption and multiple apprehension by Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforcers and Local Government Units traffic enforcers aside from LTO Flying Squad. Â Moreover, there is no uniform or standard fines and penalties being implemented by the said agencies. This system leaves jeepney drivers with measly amount for their take home earnings since they still have to give around 700-1000 Php for boundary to their respective operators.
