MANILA – A Mindanao governor has been suspended by the office of the Ombudsman for six months without pay for allegedly pocketing part of the calamity assistance fund equivalent to $60,000, which was granted to his province in 2008.

MANILA – Close to 800 families, composed of about 4,000 individuals, were evacuated from a town in Albay province in the Bicol Region following warnings from government volcanologists that Mayon Volcano is again acting up by spewing ash and causing earthquakes.

MANILA – The Supreme Court (SC) ordered the dismissal of a lower court judge in Luzon after he was found guilty of dishonesty and falsification of an official document, an SC spokesman reported. The spokesman said the SC imposed the ultimate penalty on Judge Virgilio Caballero of the Regional Trial Court in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija province in Central Luzon.
